Madras High Court Judge fixes an appointment with psychologist to break his own preconceived notions and understand same sex marriages - Bans medical intervention to cure sexual choices and suggests to include education on LGBTQ  in school curriculum.

Justice N Anand Venkatesh when presented with a writ petition that involved two lesbian women seeking protection from their relatives, went an extra mile and fixed an appointment with psychologist as he could not understand the concept of same sex marriages.

The judge mentioned in the judgement, the stigma and preconceived notions associated with same sex marriages and how he was also among the commoners who could not understand it fully due to the societal impact.

The entire report of the session with the psychologist is also contained in the 104  judgement which explains why the judge had to arrange such a session.

I have no hesitation in accepting that I too belong to the majority of commoners who are yet to comprehend homosexuality completely. Ignorance is no justification for normalizing any form of discrimination. Therefore, I took upon myself, the vested responsibility and the duty to deliver justice in all its forms and spirit, of cutting across personal prejudices and notions and setting forth to, at the least, educate myself lest my ignorance interfere with in guiding homosexuality and the LGBTQIA+ community towards social justice, reads the judgement.

Of course, the guidelines and directions pronounced in the judgement were in favor of, and in the best interests of all LGBTQLA+ Community.

As a result thereof, there was ban on medical intervention to cure certain sexual orientation and the court also suggested that the school curriculum include education on LGBTQ.
