During the hearing of petition filed by professor Sabiha Hussain, director of the Sarojini Naidu Centre that comes under Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi High Court observes that University couldn't use court to get the funds from University Grants Commission (UGC) for salary payments.Hussain filed petition in High Court seeking directions for JMI to get her salary.Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad rejected plea submitted by JMI asking for directions for UGC to release funds for Sarojini Naidu Centre for Women Studies.Court noted that the plea was nothybut just an attempt to avoid orders passed by High Court earlier.JMI argues that they could not pay the salaries because the commission have not granted funds and requests High Court to direct UGC to release funds of about Rs 6 crores.Court questions did the Vice-chancellor, Registrar and officials got their salaries, University's advocate Said they were paid.Sharma says if the university can sell properties to pay these officials it should forego these officials salaries so that professor can be paid first. In last hearing,Jamia agreed to clear Hussain's dues and she would be paid on time every month.
